One Crore sapplings to be planted

Bangalore, Jun 17 : More than one crore saplings will be planted in Karnataka under a mega afforestation programme to be launched by the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurapa here tomorrow, Western Ghat Task Force Chairman Ananth Hegde Ashishara said today.
Talking to newsmen here, he said saplings would be planted all over the state.
Various Colleges, Village Panchayats, Village Forest Committees, NGOs and various other government departments have been roped in to implement the programme.
Stating that the programme was aimed at increasing the green cover in the state, he appealed to the people to participate actively in the programme and make it a success.
He said as part of the programme, an awareness workshop will be organised to educate people on soil and water conservation, organic farming, and about issues relating to natural science. Jathas would also be organised all over the state to create awareness about the significance of afforstation.
